350 Prints are now ready!

The big day is almost here!

350 photos have now been chosen and the printed photos have just come in… and they are all looking great!

The chosen photos were printed in varying sizes, according to the image resolution provided by submitters. They come in inches 24 , 18 , 14 , and 10 on the longest side of the photo.

The 350 photos were selected with the ultimate task in mind, that is creating a high impact Postcard for each of the 350 recipients. These 350 postcards, when on their own and combined together, tells a powerful story about the life, the people and the culture of the Maldives.

We are now getting ready for the Exhibition on 24th October. Will keep you posted!

Judging the photos

Hello all,

We have now sorted through the photos that were received. This was done by putting the photos through an internal judging process whereby a panel of judges comprising of 9 members from our team scrutinized each of the 6,500 photos and gave each a rating. Below are the details of this panel of judges as well as the process of rating.

The selected panel of judges from our team are:

Umair Badeeu
Photographer and student of photo journalism

Aahid Rasheed
Lawyer

Xiena Saeed
Writer

Ali Nishan
Photo-journalist

Ifham Niyaz
Freelance writer

Fathimath Salah
Interior Designer

Hani Amir
Diver

Aminath Ula
Freelance Videographer

Elisha Jameel
Radio Presenter

The judging process

Each judge was given secure access to the photos database where they were able to view and rate one photograph at a time. No other details were shown to the judges. The rating was done using the gradient bar below.

Judges were asked to rate each photo for their relevance to the 350 project. Highest relevance would be in the red zone and lowest in the blue zone.

After rating was completed (in about 4 days) the top 4,000 photos were chosen as a sample to generate a short-listing. The following rules were then applied to this selection:

  1. The highest rated photograph from each photographer was selected
  2. If this photo was found to be irrelevant to the 350 project then another photo from the same photographer was chosen to give him/her a chance in the final selection

Up Next

We are now shortlisting from the selection of the top 4,000 photos based on ranking in the previously mentioned rating and by our resident photo curator and judge Umair Badeeu.
